Lynn Wakeman, M. Ed., LMHCA
Lynn Wakeman holds a Master of Education in Counseling Psychology and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Mental Health Professional and Child Mental Health Specialist in Washington state. Lynn’s career spans 25 years and has focused primarily on working with youth and their families, especially high-risk families involved with child welfare.
Lynn’s work is an extension of her personal passions. Lynn values family, loves children, has a heart for teenagers and believes a parent’s love and nurturing is key to a child’s development and well-being.
Lynn has provided services in home, school and office settings. Lynn is trained in cognitive-behavioral techniques, sexual assault intervention, crisis support, motivational interviewing, suicide risk assessment, and parent education. She is specially trained in the evidence-based treatment modalities of Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Plus (CBT+), and in Incredible Years and SafeCare parenting curricula. Lynn provides individual, group and family counseling to children (over 6 years old) and adults.
Lynn’s approach to counseling is client centered, relational and reflective. She believes the client is their own expert and the key to unlocking their personal growth. Lynn encourages her clients to guide (client centered) the direction of their counseling and to find solutions that are consistent with their needs and values. She believes the relationship between client and counselor is the foundation of a meaningful counseling experience. Lynn nurtures this relationship (relational), so a client feels safe to share personal details of their life. This intimate sharing helps Lynn understand a client’s perspective and how they relate to others and the world around them. Lynn uses her intuition, training and knowledge to offer insight (reflective) to help a client understand their struggles and how to change patterns. Lynn believes counseling is a partnership between client and counselor, where she offers suggestions and strategies and the client chooses what strategies they are willing to practice and implement. Lynn does not rely on one counseling theory but draws upon multiple theories and uses a variety of strategies to meet each client’s individual needs.
